If so, WorkLink Employment Society is pleased to announce the following 2023 Summer Employment Opportunities in conjunction with funding through the Government of Canada, Youth Summer Jobs Program: 

Technical Support Specialist - Youth Employment Opportunity 

  • 1 Position in the Westshore 
  • 35 hours/week | 8:30-4pm | Monday - Friday 
  • 16 weeks (May-Sept) 
  • $20.20 per hour 

The Information Technology Specialist works as a member of the information technology team under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Information Technology. The Specialist is responsible for providing direct support to technology users across the organization. This will include helping set up and update hardware/software, diagnosing connectivity or data access problems, answering questions about hardware/software, and helping users access shared drives and devices. This is essentially an onsite agency-wide help desk/technician-based position supporting non-tech savvy to highly efficient tech end users. 

Key duties for this position include: 

  • Documenting processes, performing diagnostic tests, installation/maintenance of computers and systems 
  • Participating in training sessions as required by the company 
  • Great attitude, must be adaptable when it comes to technology, as well as in their day-to-day routines, show great work ethic, and willingness to learn 
  • Providing technical and user support by assisting clients and staff in the operation of software/online portals 
  • Technical Skills: Use of complex databases; Data analysis and reporting; Computer software such as Microsoft Office 365/2021; and multitask well, working within tight deadlines and clarify priorities as things will overlap 
  • Troubleshooting hardware to maintaining and installing computer operating systems 
  • Understanding of accounting Sage programing in order to provide continued support to the accounting department  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Credentials Required 

  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical team members 
  • Currently pursuing a career in information/ technology, computer sciences, and/or a related field. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to share best practices that enhance organizational effectiveness. 
  • Must have the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time 
  • Preference is given to those with experience in Help Desk support configuring, upgrading, and repairing desktops, laptops, and associated hardware, 
  • Preferred experience in troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, and Microsoft Office 365 Applications. 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to quality, details, and correctness.  

Eligibility: 

  • Able to commit to a flexible schedule 
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation. 
  • All applicants must be between the ages of 15-30 at the beginning of employment. 
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number & be legally entitled to work in Canada (be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident). 
  • The successful candidate must have an outgoing personality and be able to communicate politely and professionally both verbally and in writing.
