WorkLink Employment Society is recruiting an Employment Advisor to work in our Westshore Office providing support to clients with disabilities. This is a term position until the end of the existing contract with the province for the delivery of WorkBC Services (contract ends March 2027). The Employment Advisor will work up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday). The position may involve occasional work in the Sooke office.

Wage: $31.54 - $32.70 per hour

About The Society:

WorkLink has provided government-sponsored employment services to the residents of the Victoria Capital Region’s Westshore (Colwood, Langford, Highlands, View Royal and Metchosin) since 1978.  In 2008, our services expanded to include the communities of Sooke and surrounding areas including Jordan River and Port Renfrew. We are also pleased to provide Indigenous outreach services to the First Nations Communities of Beecher Bay, T’Souke and Pacheedaht. Our non-profit organization is funded through both federal and provincial government initiatives. WorkLink is a registered charity in the Province of BC, which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors chosen from leaders in the community.

About The Position:

The Employment Advisor – Disability Services plays a crucial role in supporting eligible clients with disabilities as part of the job readiness/ sustainment services. This role involves working closely with clients that have disabilities to understand their unique skills, interests, and needs, as well as coordinating with employers to create a supportive and inclusive work environment. The Employment Advisor – Disability Services will play a key role in promoting disability inclusion, increasing employment opportunities, and providing ongoing support for both clients and employers.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client skills, interests, challenges, and career goals.
  • Develop personalized action plans, including job search strategies, skill-building, and workplace accommodation needs.
  • Guide clients through job application processes, including resume writing, interview preparation, and professional skills development.
  • Provide ongoing support and counselling to help clients build confidence, resilience, and workplace skills.
  • Service and support all client inclusion groups’ unique characteristics.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential client records, documenting progress, outcomes, and any areas of concern.
  • Occasionally participate in evening and weekend community events to expand the network of inclusive employers and resources and support WorkLink’s outreach goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designate.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in the delivery of employment support services (employment counseling, client needs assessments, coaching/mentoring).
  • Proven experience assisting individuals with barriers that include physical and developmental disabilities.
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma directly related to career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counseling, or education is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a client-focused approach using active listening skills and effective coaching techniques.
  • Excellent assessment skills and the ability to make clear decisions that are in the best interests of the client and organization.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain the trust of clients.
  • Able to adhere to professional standards of practice, including maintaining boundaries and upholding confidentiality.
  • Professional, respectful and effective communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to support different needs.
  • Solid knowledge of the current local labour market, job search strategies, and resume and cover letter writing techniques.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to share best practices that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Committed to continuous learning and ongoing training to help effectively support clients.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge of WorkBC Contract requirements an asset.
  • Working knowledge of ICM or other complex information database systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license for work-related travel.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check will be required upon hire.
