WorkLink Employment Society is recruiting for an People and Culture Generalist – working primarily in our Westshore Office with the flexibility to work in either Sooke or Westshore locations as required. This is a term position until the end of the existing contract with the province for the delivery of WorkBC Services, working up to 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday) and providing support to team members in all locations; with a salary range of $31.63 to $32.90 hourly.

About The Society: WorkLink has provided government-sponsored employment services to the residents of the Victoria Capital Region’s Westshore (Colwood, Langford, Highlands, View Royal, and Metchosin) since 1978. In 2008, our services expanded to include the communities of Sooke and surrounding areas including Jordan River and Port Renfrew. We are also pleased to provide Indigenous outreach services to the First Nations Communities of Beecher Bay, T’Souke, and Pacheedaht. Our nonprofit organization is funded through both federal and provincial government initiatives. WorkLink is a registered charity in the Province of BC, which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors chosen from leaders in the community.

About The Position:

The People and Culture Generalist originates and leads HR practices and objectives that will provide an employee orientation; performance / organizational culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, and productivity; standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment of employee engagement; and ongoing development of a superior workforce. They are responsible for assisting the leadership team in the development and enforcement of the following three (3) key documents and conditions of employment for all Society staff: conflict of interest (real, potential and perceived conflicts), confidentiality (protecting privileged and confidential information) and code of conduct (act lawfully, honestly, ethically, and in the best interests of the Society).

 

Key duties for this position include:

  • Provides support to the leadership team to actively participate in staffing information booths at external community events in alignment with the agency’s Human Resources Attraction and Recruitment Plans.
  • Carry out responsibilities in the following functional areas: departmental development, human resource information systems, employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, organizational development, and employment.
  • Ensure that all employees have access to high-quality services, for which applicable external funding body agreements and internal Society policies will be applied in the same way.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources office, and the administration of the human resources policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant privacy legislation and WorkSafe BC Health and Safety requirements in British Columbia and Canada
  • Proficient in delivering workshops and information sessions to staff and contractors in the areas of Diversity, equity and inclusion, workplace communication, conflict resolution, policies and procedures, and benefits program.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on funding body policy/system process as it relates to human resources best practices and staffing contract requirements.
  • Support leadership team in staff recruitment and retention plans (training, evaluation, support, and development)
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to achieve organizational goals.
  •  Act as the first point of contact for employee concerns, providing guidance and resolution, while promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Work with the Executive Director to ensure compliance with all contract’s human resources standards and protocols.
  • Act as an advisor to the leadership team on agency benefit plans, employee issues, and applicable employment standards and legislation.
  • Provide training and support to other team members of the human resources department
  • Various other related duties or projects as required
  • Support all contract leadership team members in the development and implementation of the following components related to Contract Business Recovery Plans:
    • Staff Organizational Chart

    • Staff Training and Evaluation

    • Issue Resolution

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Sound current knowledge and experience on best practices and current Labour Laws, Human Rights and Employment Standards
  • Excellent communication, initiative, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience in conflict management
  • Strong active listening skills, with the ability to uphold and maintain confidentiality.
  • Significant knowledge of the hiring process
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple demands

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated current working experience in a lead HR role.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check; and valid BC Driver’s license
  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources studies or a minimum of three years related experience in a Human
  • Resources or post-secondary environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference is given to those with CPHR designation
  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal business communication skills.
