Ryen’s Journey: From Self-Doubt to Self-Belief

Ryen always had a passion for the outdoors, playing guitar, and working with his hands. Eager to find a career path that aligned with his interests, he took a bold step by joining the START Youth Employment & Skills Strategy Program.

As soon as he started the program, he knew he had made the right choice. “The START program has impacted my life in the utmost positive way,” Ryen shared. “It taught me a lot about myself and how to navigate my emotions. I learned interview and communication skills I didn’t know I had, along with many other valuable life skills. I first walked into the program as a shy, introverted person and left as a confident young man.”

Through START’s hands-on training, workshops, and supportive facilitators, Ryen gained tools and the confidence to pursue his goals. “The program prepared me for the workforce in so many ways: resume building, interview skills, and giving me the belief that I could chase the career I’ve always wanted. I couldn’t be more thankful.”

Reflecting on his experience, Ryen offered advice to future participants: “Just do it. Try not to get overwhelmed. By the time the course is over, your cohort will feel like family. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and apply yourself to every lesson — it’s worth it.”

Now, as he prepares for the next chapter of his life, Ryen feels equipped to tackle any challenge. “The confidence, training, and life skills I gained have truly changed my life and shaped my future. I feel like there’s nothing I can’t achieve now.”
