After graduating from high school two years ago, Sébastien struggled to find a clear path forward and remained disconnected from work or training opportunities. When he joined the START Program, he was ready for structure, hands-on experience, and support to help him move confidently into the workforce.
Through START, Sébastien gained foundational employability skills and completed industry-recognized certifications, including DogSafe, which aligned directly with his interest in working with animals. With this training in place, the program supported him in applying for and securing a Quality Employment Opportunity with K9 Sk8 Park, a local doggy daycare.
Sébastien began his placement under an eight-week wage subsidy, during which he demonstrated reliability, a strong work ethic, and genuine care for the animals in his care. With ongoing support from START staff and on-the-job experience, he quickly built confidence and adapted to workplace expectations.
Upon completion of the wage subsidy, K9 Sk8 Park welcomed Sébastien as a permanent employee, recognizing his growth and contributions. He is now working five days per week, marking a significant and sustained step forward in his employment journey.
