Job Search for Experienced Workers
Objective: In this workshop, we aim to help you understand the benefits of your lived and work experience and skills, review your values, and the importance of age diversity in the workplace.
Finding meaningful work in this employment climate isn’t easy, but there are more opportunities to explore and navigate. We will discuss the characteristics of the five generations present in the workplace and the benefits each generation brings. You will learn the current trends in job search techniques and how to highlight your lived experience when writing a resume and participating in an interview. This practical knowledge will leave you feeling more confident and empowered to display your values, competencies, and skills to find meaningful employment!

Networking Essentials
Objective: Over 60% of available jobs are not advertised! Networking gets results. You will leave this workshop knowing how to access employment opportunities beyond published job postings.
You will be encouraged to complete a networking web, research potential employers, write and practice a 30-second introduction, practice employer cold calls, and request an information meeting. We will discuss how to use social media to add to your network. You will learn to use the Internet to research and create a list of potential employers and begin contacting them.
To make the most of this workshop, bring a copy of your resume and any job postings you plan to apply for. It’s important that you have a clear idea of the job, industry, or field you are interested in pursuing.
Rev Up Your Resume
Objective: You need a tailored resume to get an interview! This workshop will help you create a targeted resume that will make you shine as a job applicant.
At the beginning, you’ll be prompted to identify your values as an employee that are important to you and need to be present in the workplace. After self-exploration and reflection, you will learn how to write an attention-grabbing HOT ZONE! We will discuss how to tailor your resume to job descriptions and use accomplishment statements to clearly demonstrate how you meet the required core competencies in the context of the position you are applying for. You will be introduced to the powerful PAR (Problem or Task, Action, Result) method for creating accomplishments statements, which is a key tool in making your achievements and successes stand out.
To make the most of this workshop, please bring a paper or electronic version of your resume and a means to save your documents electronically. Also, bring a job description for a position you wish to apply for.
Cover Letter Writing
Objective: A good cover letter can help you stand out. Learn how to format a cover letter and use it to sell yourself.
Tailor your cover letter to the job you want to apply to and make yourself stand out. The main point of a cover letter is to add to the information you provided in your resume by including valuable information about yourself. We will discuss the formatting components of a professional cover letter. You will receive some good resources to apply to your cover letter.
To enhance your learning, you should have a job description for the position you are applying for.
Interview Skills
Objective: You will feel prepared and more confident when participating in an interview, having learned how to articulate the answers to some common behavioural questions.
In this workshop, our goal is to equip you with the skills and confidence to excel in your next interview. You will be introduced to the different interview formats and learn how to give a good first impression. We will discuss possible answers to commonly asked interview questions using the STAR technique, particularly those tricky behavioural questions. In addition, we will prepare questions that you may have for your potential employers. As a group, we will participate in a “mock” interview. You will leave this workshop feeling more confident, ready to handle interview “jitters,” and ready to stand out!

Skills ID
Objective: Learn the difference between skills and core competencies and how these relate to job descriptions. Take time to do some self-research and reflection, and find out what values are important to you. Make a list of your core competencies and soft and transferable skills, empowering you in your job search.
You will learn to identify and categorize your skills so they are clearly articulated on a resume, during interviews, and in interactions with potential employers. In this workshop, we will discuss the nine skills for success that people need for work, learning, and life. We will discuss NOC and encourage further research on what skills are required for interested industries in your job search. By the end of this workshop, you will know what your HARD SKILLS, SOFT SKILLS, AND TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS are.
For optimal learning, bring a copy of your resume or as much information as possible regarding your previous job descriptions to make notes for further revision.
Career Planning
Objective: You will participate in various career planning discussions to determine career options and gain confidence in your career decision-making process.
This is a workshop where you will participate in group discussions and learn how to assess your skills, values, personality traits, and interests related to various career options. Through self-research, reflection, and work research and reflection, you’ll see that understanding yourself and knowing about the potential employer, work environment, and culture will help you make more sustainable work choices. You will be introduced to basic psychological principles regarding job satisfaction and determine how they relate to your past and future employment. Researching careers of interest, you will be introduced to the concept of a cost/benefit analysis for educational paths. You will be more self-aware and empowered to make employment-related decisions.
To optimize your learning, reflect on what type of jobs you have had in the past and what caused your satisfaction or dissatisfaction within those jobs. You may notice your positive routines, patterns, and behaviours by collecting feedback from past co-workers, clients, or friends to enhance your search for a more suitable and sustainable job, employer, or work environment.
Basic Computer Skills
Objective: Empower participants with fundamental computer vocabulary and skills, enabling them to navigate and utilize computers confidently.
This workshop will enable the participant to understand the fundamental differences between the most common computer devices and provide hands-on experience to strengthen essential skills such as keyboard typing, drag-and-drop functionality, and accessing icons on the taskbar or desktop. The main purpose of this workshop is to optimize the learning experience by providing practical, interactive sessions that build foundational computer competencies.
Interpersonal Skills ( Including Emotional Intelligence - EQ)
Objective: This workshop explains what interpersonal skills are, how we identify them, and what benefits you will provide to your next employer by highlighting your interpersonal skills set. Emotional intelligence is part of your Interpersonal Skills and is important to know and utilize as a positive Transferable skill in any workplace. There will be an open and safe discussion on learning and asking questions about EQ, such as knowing your triggers or how EQ plays a role in a positive work environment and culture.
Be prepared to share some of your experiences and learning moments about Emotional Intelligence through safe and healthy self-research and reflection.
Transferable Skills
Objective: Transferable skills are essential to highlight when applying for your next job. This workshop identifies transferable skills when self-researching and reflecting on your values and positive routines, patterns and behaviours.
This workshop will assist you in determining your transferable skills and applying them in a few exercises around accomplishment statements for your resume, answering behavioural interview questions or when you are stepping into a new career and need to highlight the benefits you’ll be bringing to your new employer. Transferable skills are key to know when applying for any job position; by tailoring your resume with your transferable skills, your resume will be positively reviewed and have a better chance of being placed on the interview pile.
Financial Literacy
Objective: Learn simple, practical ways to manage your money.
Learn what a budget is and how to use one. Set SMART goals and make an ACTION plan to find ways to reduce spending and save money to plan when expenses can sneak up on you. Need a side hustle? Discover ways to earn more income and tips and tricks to save even more money.
An excellent way to know about your spending is to understand what is essential to you, be prepared to share, and explore managing your budget through self-reflection and research. By matching your spending habits to your values and needs and examining your wants, you will have a good discussion about your finances and what budget tool works best for you.
Examine your income and expenses from the past few months to improve your learning experience.
