WHAT PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING
Daxia's Journey: Empowered for Success
At 19, Daxia was a part-time student who had previously volunteered in the community. Although she enjoyed her volunteer work, she was eager to transition into the professional workforce. Daxia recognized the importance of gaining meaningful work experience and knew she needed some support. When Daxia heard about the START program in October 2024, it felt like the perfect opportunity. Little did she know that the START program would enhance her employability and help her build strong connections with peers.
Kirin’s Journey: Finding Confidence Through the START Program
Like many young adults, Kirin faced challenges while navigating the job market. During his early life, he lived in Istanbul, Beijing, and Warsaw, where his parents worked at international schools. After returning home to Canada to attend university, he settled in Victoria and set out to find a fulfilling job using the skills he gained from education and travel experience. However, as he began his job search, he quickly realized that the task would be much more challenging than anticipated.ng connections with peers.
The past six weeks have been an incredibly enjoyable and enlightening experience. I am immensely thankful to the program facilitators for their efforts in making the program as great as it was. It exceeded my expectations, and I absolutely feel better for it. I enjoyed myself so much that I was sad to see it end by the end of last week!
The facilitators made an effort to make everybody feel heard and understood, and they made a positive impression on them all because it meant a lot. Sometimes this world can feel like a dark and uncaring place, yet people like the facilitators put things into perspective and remind me that there is still an abundance of good in this world.
Ryley - New Opportunities
It taught me skills and showed me opportunities that I never knew existed, and it has helped open many doors for my future. The START program helped me gain the confidence to enter the workforce. The facilitators were all wonderful and supportive!
